EXHIBIT STATEMENT
Memory Palace is a term from the historical text by Francis Yates, “The Art of Memory” (1966). Yates writes about collective memory before the invention of the printing press; spanning the Renaissance - 17th century. The art of print connects mind & body with action, process, history and movement. Art is a way to tell the tales about who we are and to encourage future generations to remember the important stories. Her theories include memory location, memory wheels and other unique methods. Visibility and vision clarifies what is seen & unseen, yet remembering is an art. This relevant text was not only written by a woman before her time but inspired this body of artwork.
The mind is an important space; like a palace.
Traveling can feel like meeting an old friend in a new place.
This collection is intended to bring the beauty of Eastern Europe home to Kentucky.
