Self affirmations are important, but that is a skill that must be taught. This is a photograph of a group of middle school students participating in a school based group called KRUSH - Kids Rising Up through Support and Healing. Every student in this group has been impacted by parental incarceration and we meet with them weekly and/or monthly to provide them a safe place to talk about their shared experiences and individual experiences. During this meeting we talked about self affirmations and they were able to create a bracelet with the word of their choice to remind them of their "super powers". Our hope is to empower these youth to break the generational chains of trauma and give them as many opportunities and resources as possible to rise up to their full potential. ​
